Dr. Kayla Orr D.C.
Chiropractor & Advanced Nutrition Response Testing® Practitioner
Dr. Kayla Orr was in a "minor" car accident when she was a junior in high school. As she soon discovered, there are no "minor" accidents and soon she was suffering from headaches as a result of her injuries. She visited her hometown chiropractor and after several visits her headache pain was relieved. It became obvious to her that chiropractic was beneficial in healing after an injury.
At the same time, her mother could only walk a few blocks before low back pain set in. Within a few years, she became unable to walk those two blocks at all, let alone stand, without her severely degenerated back robbing her of her quality of life. At that moment Kayla understood the importance of lifetime spinal maintenance. Chiropractic was not just for injury management - it was for the maintenance of the spine, much like brushing and flossing for oral health. It can prevent many chronic and recurring conditions people suffer from daily, all without drugs and surgery. This revelation influenced her choice of career.
Dr. Kayla (Zirpel-Proctor) Orr graduated from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 2007. She practiced for years in Lakeville, MN before starting her second chiropractic location in St Paul, MN. She officially merged office locations to the St Paul area in 2014 and has been helping West 7th community members and their families reach optimal health levels ever since.
Dr. Kayla (Zirpel-Proctor) Orr strives to create an energizing, healing environment and incorporates detailed postural and radiologic analysis into the practice. Since that time, the practice has catered to all individuals seeking optimal health and wellness although families and children are the main focus. Dr. Kayla (Zirpel-Proctor) Orr recently became a Nutrition Response Testing® Practitioner. Dr. Kayla (Zirpel-Proctor) Orr has become one of the leading health and wellness advocates and educators in St Paul, MN. Her belief that the strength of a community depends on the health of its residents spurs her contribution of countless hours to the education and promotion of health and wellness.
Dr. Kayla's Nutrition Response Testing® Story
At age 30 I developed painful seizures. There was nothing more ironic than me, a chiropractor who works with nerve systems, and having a neurological disorder. Even though I got adjusted regularly, ate healthy, and exercised I still developed seizures. The seizures changed my life. When they occur, I have no idea where or what I might wake up to. I went from being completely independent to having to depend on friends and family (much appreciation to you all!).
This magnified my existing anxiety, as the seizures are unpredictable and impact all aspects of my life (i.e., walking downstairs, being outside in freezing temperatures, crossing a busy street, swimming, etc.). I tried NUMEROUS chiropractic techniques, modalities, and supplement programs. However, I was still averaging a seizure about once every 2-4 weeks. I will admit I was frustrated with my body.
Then I had an appointment with a Nutrition Response Testing ® Advanced Clinically Trained Practitioner. We found that wheat (gluten) was causing my chronic anxiety. We also found that I couldn't tolerate even one glass of St. Paul city water a week, because I would get significant fatigue, neck aches, and headaches; I noticed even small amounts of cigarette smoke, fragrances, and bus exhaust would also severely affect me.
When I started my program and implemented specific dietary changes (which included cutting out some foods that were considered healthy but bad for me), lifestyle changes, and whole food supplements my body started to heal. This is where I developed some HOPE for my health. Things have improved greatly.
It is not perfect, health is a state of physical, nutritional/chemical, and emotional well-being. It is a journey; one I have only begun and will continue for the rest of my life.
I'm no longer living with extreme anxiety, dizziness, twitching, tingling sensations, sleep disturbances, digestive issues, and constant severe headaches. I have been able to reintroduce foods that at one time would have been debilitating. Most importantly, with continued treatment, the seizures that occurred 2-4 times a month have decreased to the point where I have now gone 6 months without having one.
My experience with Nutrition Response Testing encouraged me to become a Nutrition Response Testing Advanced Clinical Practitioner. I was already intrigued by this technique and how it zoned in on the specific stressors of each patient and determined the right supplements to support the body as it works to heal from those stressors. Now I find enjoyment in getting to the root cause of my practice members' health concerns and helping them as I am being helped.
With this technique incorporated into my practice at Back to Wellness Chiropractic and Nutrition patients’ spines and health conditions have stabilized and improved at a much quicker pace. This is because, Nutrition Response Testing has allowed me to address ALL the root causes of my practice members’ decreasing health that were holding their bodies back from optimal healing.
I look forward to working together to help you reach higher levels of bodily function, health, and well-being, as we travel together on your health journey!
